“When UIF turned TERS into tears, Mitax fought back — and the client was cleared.”
During the height of COVID-19 in 2020, South African businesses were allowed to claim relief through the UIF’s Temporary Employer/Employee Relief Scheme (TERS). To manage compliance, UIF created a digital portal where all the necessary documents had to be uploaded — creating a clear audit trail for every claim submitted.
Five years later, businesses are now facing “Follow the Money” audits. Instead of simply drawing on the UIF portal records, auditors demand that employers resubmit years of payroll, bank, and compliance documents — a costly and time-consuming exercise.
One such case involved Mzala Shoes CC. The auditors initially raised several findings suggesting that the company owed UIF money. Mitax, however, challenged these findings, providing the necessary explanations and reconciliations. After careful review, the final outcome was NIL: no repayments were due, and the client was cleared.
What began as yet another example of COVID TERS turning into UIF Tears ended as a story of advocacy and protection. With Mitax at their side, the client could move forward with peace of mind, knowing their compliance was secured and their case resolved.
